| Monday 23 February – 7.30pm – Bigger Queens, Better Queens | David Evans, AKA ‘The Apiarist’, will outline our current understanding of how colonies rear queens; the swarm, supersedure and emergency responses; queen mating; which larvae the colony chooses to rear queens from; and the maternal effect contributed by the queen. He will discuss how beekeepers can exploit these studies and how they can help both inexperienced beekeepers who are daunted by queen rearing (or who have been previously unsuccessful) and those with lots of experience but are interested in producing bigger, better queens. | Online – check your emails for the Zoom link. |
| Tuesday 10 March – 7pm for 7.30 start – Bee Venom Allergy | Professor Claire Bethune (NHS Lead on Venom Allergy) will be explaining exciting new nationally important research on how allergic reactions do or don’t develop in beekeepers – led from Derriford Hospital and Plymouth University. A number of Tavistock Beekeepers are already taking part and there are opportunities for new participants. | United Reformed Church, Russell Street, Tavistock. PL19 8BD |
